Wyandotte Nation takes casino raid case to 10th Circuit

printer friendly
The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma is asking the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals to reopen its out-of-state casino in Kansas.

State officials raided the downtown Kansas City facility after the National Indian Gaming Commission determined that gaming cannot take place there. The state seized about 150 electronic casino machines owned by Multimedia Games Inc. of Texas.

The tribe says the raid violated its sovereign rights. Even though the NIGC opinion ruled against gaming, the agency determined the tribe exercised jurisdiction over the land. The state is claiming a right to enforce its laws on the property.
