McCain cancels Nevada visit after gambling story

printer friendly
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) has canceled a scheduled campaign visit to Reno, Nevada.

No reason was given but the move comes after The New York Times reported about McCain's close times to the gaming industry. The paper said he has accepted more than $260,000 from gaming interests this year, twice as much as rival Sen. Barack Obama (D-Illinois).

Only six members of Congress have accepted more gaming-related contributions over the past 20 years, the paper said. McCain has served twice as chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, which oversees legislation affecting tribal casinos.

Obama is speaking in Reno today.
