Tribal colleges are an important and valuable resource to the Native
communities they serve. Tribal colleges are a unique bridge between traditional culture
and modern education, and unlike most state and private colleges and
universities, they focus on an entirely different student
demographic, including returning students, single parents, and elders.
Tribal colleges also serve as a springboard for students into
4 year institutions by providing students with an environment
where tribal culture and language are reinforced.
The issues tribal colleges face also differ from other educational institutions.
Distance learning, funding, accreditation, and assessment are important
topics facing any tribal college administrator.
