Brazil considers drilling on aboriginal lands

The government of Brazil is considering a plan to open more aboriginal lands to mining despite growing concerns of illegal development, MineWeb reports.
Brazilian tribes currently have little say over the use of valuable natural resources on their reservations. An estimated $2 billion worth of diamonds has been illegally mined from the Cinta Larga Reservation, activists say.
The dispute led to the killings of 29 miners by tribal warriors. The government wants to resolve the issue and allow development on the reservation under certain conditions, a top official said.
