Vitter won't say why he OKed Abramoff fundraiser
Thursday, March 17, 2005

Sen. David Vitter (R-Louisiana) won't say why he agreed to have disgraced Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff host a fundraiser in Washington, D.C.

Vitter, however, admits he knew at the time of the September 9, 2003, event that Abramoff represented gaming tribes. Vitter says he opposes the expansion of gaming.

When he was a Congressman, Vitter fought a proposed casino by the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians. He claims he didn't know that the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana was behind opposition to the Jena casino.
