California tribe's workers to negotiate union contract

Casino employees of the Pala Band of Mission Indians will be negotiating a contract with a labor union at the center of a tribal sovereignty fight in California.
The employees voted to join UNITE HERE, which is seeking to organize tribal casino workers on other reservations. The effort has spawned a lawsuit against another union, the Communications Workers of America.
UNITE HERE is behind a controversial case before the National Labor Relations Board that held that tribes who employ non-Indians and affect non-Indians are subject to federal labor laws.
Tribes have been lobbying Congress to address the decision.
