Senate hearing to focus on Norquist and Reed

The June 22 Senate Indian Affairs Committee hearing will focus on relationship between disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and GOP activists Grover Norquist and Ralph Reed, The Hill newspaper reports.
Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform and Reed's Century Strategies have admitted taking millions from Abramoff's wealthy tribal clients. The money, in most cases, was used to fight the gaming efforts of other tribes.
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), the chairman of the committee, has subpoenaed Norquist as part of his investigation into Abramoff. Norquist is fighting the request. Reed was not subpoenaed because he complied with the committee's request for information.
Norquist says the investigation is politically motivated because he and others linked to Abramoff supported President George W. Bush in the 2000 Republican primary that McCain lost. Reed is currently running for lieutenant governor of Georgia.
