McCain may introduce lobbying reform legislation
Friday, November 4, 2005

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) and some of his allies may introduce lobbying reform legislation, Bloomberg News reports.

McCain is working with Sen. Russell Feingold (D-Wisconsin) and Rep. Martin Meehan (D-Massachusetts) to tighten regulations on lobbyists. The lawmakers previously worked together on campaign finance reform.

McCain is being spurred by the Senate Indian Affairs Committee probe of Jack Abramoff. He charged extremely high fees to wealthy tribal clients.

McCain has already introduced one bill that would require ex-officials of the Interior Department to wait one year before lobbying for tribal governments. The bill was approved by committee in June.
