Scanlon had private jet, described as generous
Monday, December 5, 2005

Michael P.S. Scanlon was a "generous friend" to lifeguards in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and once ferried them to a lifesaving competition aboard his private jet.

Scanlon, who went by "Sean" on the beach, worked on and off as a lifeguard for Rehoboth Beach Patrol. According to a local newspaper, he let friends use his house and vehicle and even hired one of them -- 1997 Rehoboth Beach Lifeguard of the Year David Grosh -- as head of an international think tank that allegedly defrauded tribes of money.

Scanlon was well liked by many on the beach, the city manager said. The mayor said he didn't know if Scanlon's recent guilty plea would affect his employment

Scanlon may have to give up his house and jet in order to pay $19.6 million in restitution to four tribes he admitted to defrauding. He has not divulged how, or when, he will pay the tribes. He already posted a $5 million personal guarantee and remains a free man while he cooperates with federal investigators.
