Joe Garcia, the new president of the National Congress of American Indians, will appear on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" program this morning at 9am.

The appearance comes a day after Garcia delivered his first State of Indian Nations in Washington, D.C.. In the address, he laid out "Four Great Steps" to advance the Indian Country agenda: public safety, health care, education and the economy and settlement of Cobell.

During a question and answer period, Garcia was asked by an Associated Press reporter about the Jack Abramoff scandal and its effect on tribes. "We'll get over it, and soon," he said.

Later, he was asked by The Native Voice about legislative attempts to limit tribal political donations to federal candidates and political action committees. He said tribes should be able to participate in the democratic process just like everyone else.

"The tribes should not be singled out," he said.

The Washington Journal program can be seen on the main C-SPAN channel. A live webcast will be available on the C-SPAN website [Link].
