Soboba Band cancels law enforcement pact
Tuesday, August 15, 2006

The Soboba Band of Lusieño Indians has terminated its law enforcement agreement with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

No reason was given for the cancellation. It comes just a few months after the tribe agreed to fund an expansion of the services the sheriff provided to the reservation.

When the agreement was signed in 2005, it was considered a first in the county. The tribe was contributing about $400,000 to pay for extra services.
