Omaha Tribe receives $4M from Shakopee Tribe

The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska has received a $4 million loan and grant package from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community of Minnesota.
The package consists of a $3 million loan and a $1 million grant. The money will help the Omaha Tribe reduce its debt, consolidate other loans, conduct audits and purchase a new surveillance system for its casino.
"This consolidation of our debt will be a great savings," said Omaha Chairman Mitchell Parker. "The same is true on the tribal government side. Moreover, a consolidation of our debt will pave the way for sorely needed economic development."
The $3 million loan is contingent on $3 million loan is contingent by the Shakopee legal and financial staff. "We are extremely appreciative of the generosity and good will that the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community has shown the Omaha Tribe," said Parker. "[Shakopee] Chairman [Stanley] Crooks and the other members of the [Shakopee] council continue to set a strong example for tribal self-sufficiency and assisting others in need."
The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, based in Prior Lake, operates a successful casino and ranks Minnesota's top 51 employers. In recent years, the tribe has donated more than $75 million to charitable organizations and tribes.
