Northern Ute chairwoman, incumbents ousted

Members of the Northern Ute Tribe of Utah ousted their chairwoman and two incumbents in an election on Tuesday.
Chairwoman Maxine Natchees was defeated by Curtis Cesspooch. Richard Jenks and Smiley Arrowchis lost their seats on the tribal council.
The vote could affect the tribe's relationship with a non-Indian adviser who has become wealthy off the tribe. John Jurrius was supported by Natchees and the two ousted council members.
Cesspooch, on the other hand, has called for an audit of tribal funds managed by Jurrius. Cesspooch also wants to limit the role played by Jurrius in tribal matters.
