UND search committee could include tribal member

North Dakota Board of Higher Education President John Paulsen is recommending the University of North Dakota add a tribal member to its presidential search committee.

Paulsen previously said the makeup of the 16-member wouldn't change. But after talking to United Tribes Technical College President David Gipp, he changed his mind.

“I thought about it and I realized that (American Indians) are a very important constituency at UND,” Paulsen told The Grand Forks Herald.

The final decision on adding a tribal member won't be made until next week. Then Paulsen will pick a tribal representative.
