No Natives named to Alaska Board of Game
Thursday, February 7, 2008

Native leaders are questioning why Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) hasn't appointed any Natives to the state Board of Game.

Paul Johnson, who is Alaska Native, was serving on the board. But when his appointment expired last week, Palin didn't reappoint him or any other Natives to the board.

Instead, she named former Alaska Outdoor Council president Teresa Sager-Albaugh, who hadn't even interviewed for the job. Sager-Albaugh opposed Native subsistence rights.

Sager-Albaugh turned down the appointment to avoid further controversy. But the Alaska Federation of Natives says the three candidates it submitted weren't even considered by Palin.
