Soboba couple killed while hiding from police

Two members of the
Soboba Band of Luiseno
Indians were hiding behind a tree when they were shot and killed by
Riverside County sheriff's deputies, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports.
Joseph Arres, 36, and Tamara Angela Hurtado, 30, were involved in a one-hour shootout with deputies and SWAT officers from
Riverside County on Monday. They reportedly fled the Soboba Casino in a car that they eventually abandoned before being killed in a remote area of the reservation.
Arres was wanted on an arrest warrant for drug and gun charges. Arres and Hurtado were armed with assault rifles, according to the county sheriff.
The incident marked the second time a tribal member was killed by sheriff's deputies in a one-week period. Eli Morillo was killed on May 8. There have been six officer-related shootings in the past six months on or near the reservation.
