The city council in
San Jacinto,
California, is asking the
Bureau of Indian Affairs delay consideration of the land-into-trust application filed by the
Soboba Band of Luiseno
Indians.
The tribe is seeking to have 535 acres placed in trust. The land is adjacent to the reservation.
The city says law enforcement and public safety issues should be addressed before action is taken on the application. The reservation has been the site of three fatal shootings between tribal members and
Riverside County
Sheriff's deputies.
