Senate hearing on Standing Rock Reservation

The
Senate Indian Affairs
Committee is holding a field hearing on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation on Monday, August 4, 2008.
The hearing will address Operation Dakota Peacekeeper, an effort by the
Bureau of Indian Affairs to improve law and order on the reservation. The BIA is spending $1 million on 20 officers for 90 days.
The witnesses for the hearing include Ron His Horse Is Thunder, the chairman of the
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe; Judge William Zuger, the chief judge of the tribal court; Pat Ragsdale, the head of BIA's Office of Justice Services; and Marty Jackley, the
U.S. Attorney for South Dakota.
The hearing takes place from 9:30am-11:30am at the
Sitting Bull College in Fort Yates, North Dakota.
