Senate panel holds field hearing at Standing Rock

The
Senate Indian Affairs Committee held a field hearing on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation on Monday.
The reservation straddles the North Dakota-South Dakota border and saw a spike in violent crime in the past year. The
Bureau of Indian Affairs started Operation Dakota Peacekeeper in June to put more police officers on the ground.
Leaders of the
Standing Rock Sioux Tribe said the effort has been successful. The BIA said it will extend the operation another 30 days.
