A dispute within the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians of California could be resolved with the help of a federal mediator.
The tribe is divided over the pending disenrollment of about 80 people. As a result, the
Bureau of Indian Affairs says it doesn't recognize a functioning government.
That could spell trouble for the tribe's federal funds and its gaming operation. So far, nothing has been cut or shut down but Chairman Allen Lawson on Monday asked the BIA to bring in a mediator, probably from the
Department of Justice, to
