The Native American Caucus at the
Democratic National
Convention is slamming
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) for associating with one of Jack Abramoff's "Republican cohorts," Indian Country Today reports.
Members of the caucus are drafting a resolution that calls on McCain to denounce Ralph Reed, who was a player in the Abramoff scandal. Reed, who accepted $4.1 million from tribes, said he is part of McCain's campaign team and solicited donations for the presumptive Republican nominee.
As chairman of the
Senate Indian Affairs
Committee, McCain investigated Abramoff but did not question Reed or go into Reed's activities. Reed does not play a formal role in the campaign, a McCain spokesperson said.
