Yavapai-Apache Nation helps Havasuapai Tribe
Wednesday, August 27, 2008

The Yavapai-Apache Nation has donated $15,000 to the Havasupai Tribe, whose economy was hard hit by flooding in the Grand Canyon.

Yavapai-Apache leaders visited the Havasupai Reservation on August 21 to see the damage from the flood. Along with the check, they donated items to the Havasupai Head Start.

The Havasupai Tribe depends heavily on tourism at the Supai village, which was hit by the flood. The village will be closed for at least six more months.

"The trail is pretty damaged, so they are going to close it down for the remainder of the year," Taschina Watahomigie of the tribe's tourism office told the Associated Press.

A disaster fund has been set up for the tribe at Wells Fargo Bank Arizona, Account 7089718444, 330 East Beale St., Kingman, AZ 86401.
