No charges for former attorney general Gonzales
Tuesday, September 2, 2008

Former attorney general Alberto Gonzales mishandled classified data but won't face any charges, The Washington Post reports.

Gonzales failed to secure sensitive information about an anti-terrorist program and violated protocols for protecting classified data, according to a forthcoming investigation by the Office of the Inspector General at the Department of Justice. The data wasn't shared with anyone, according to the probe.

Gonzales resigned in August 2007 amid controversy over the firings of several U.S. attorneys. An OIG report into the matter is pending though two prior reports on other scandals have not led to any charges against former aides to Gonzales.
