Blackfeet woman passes on traditional science

Latrice Tatsey, a member of the
Blackfeet Nation of Montana, is teaching younger generations about the calendar sick, the traditional method of measuring time, seasons and the weather.
Tatsey learned about the stick from her father. She quickly became an expert and is now teaching others about the traditional science.
"It's really important to me that the younger generation picks up this tradition," Tatsey told The Great Falls Tribune. "If this knowledge isn't transferred down to the younger generation, it will be lost."
The Blackfeet calendar is based on moons so the year runs 360 days. The stick can measure quarter-days to account for leap years.
