The
Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana ordered a mandatory evacuation on Sunday in anticipation of
Hurricane
Gustav.
About 60 to 70 percent of residents left the reservation, Indian Country Today reported. The tribe's police force of 22 officers also stayed behind though they appeared to be unreachable after the hurricane made landfall on Monday.
The
Coushatta Tribe shut down its casino on Sunday out of caution for the hurricane, which lost some of its steam after striking. A flash flood watch is in effect for the
Tunica-Biloxi Tribe, whose reservation is further inland.
