Pechanga leader clashed with strip club bouncer
Thursday, September 4, 2008

Gabriel Pico, a late member of the Pechanga Band of LuiseƱo Indians, was injured during a "physical altercation" with a bouncer at a strip club in Denver, Colorado.

The altercation occurred in the early morning hours of August 30. Pico, 41, was taken to a hospital, where he died on Monday.

Authorities are investigating the incident. It may take weeks before a coroner determines the cause of death.

Pico, who was elected to the tribal council in July, was in Denver to attend the Democratic National Convention. He was not a delegate, a tribal spokesperson said.
