Former Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell was unable to attend the
Republican National Convention because planners failed to contact him in time, Indian Country Today reports.
Campbell, a member of the
Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana, said he was only given 48 hours notice to speak at the convention. He had already committed to another meeting by that time.
''I just couldn't make it,'' Campbell told ICT.
Campbell, however, still had praise for
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona), who accepted the GOP nomination on Thursday. Campbell is serving as honorary co-chair of American Indians for McCain Coalition, along with
Rep. Tom Cole, a member of the
Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma.
