Abramoff scandal figured indicted again
Friday, October 10, 2008

David Safavian, a former Bush administration official, was indicted a second time in connection with the Jack Abramoff scandal.

Safavian is charged with four counts of making false statements to the Senate Indian Affairs Committee about his dealings with Abramoff. He faces a charge of obstructing justice.

The new indictment was filed after the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Safavian's conviction. He was the only Abramoff figure who went to trial.

Safavian is a former lobbyist for the National Indian Gaming Association and gaming tribes. He worked for the General Services Administration and the White House Office of Management and Budget.
