BIA urges San Pasqual Band to resolve dispute
Friday, October 10, 2008

The Bureau of Indian Affairs will meet with the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians of California in hopes of resolving a leadership dispute.

Two factions claim control of the tribe. They split over an enrollment dispute affecting 80 people, about a quarter of the tribe's membership.

As a result of the dispute, the BIA says it doesn't recognize the tribe's government. That could hurt the tribe's federal funding and its gaming operation, superintendent Jim Fletcher said.
