Navajo voters excited about election of Obama
Friday, November 7, 2008

Members of the Navajo Nation turned in large numbers on election day and all of them seemed to support Barack Obama, The Navajo Times reports.

Navajo voters said they were ready for the change symbolized by election of the first African-American president in history. They related better to Obama, who was raised by a single parent.

"We need somebody young," Deanna Tso told the paper "Somebody other than the white men. Somebody who can get something accomplished."

The paper did find one
John McCain supporter. But Esteban Yazzie changed his mind "overnight."

"It was a tough decision, but I really believe Obama is better for Native Americans," Yazzie said.

A slew of Navajo Nation leaders endorsed Obama.
