McCain demands documents for tribal lobbyist's work

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has asked a number of parties, including tribes, for a wide range of documents related to a high-paid Republican lobbyist.
McCain wrote former Greenberg Traurig lobbyist Jack Abramoff yesterday demanding information about work he did for tribes. According to The Washington Post, McCain's letter cited an previously undisclosed $10 million payment Abramoff allegedly received -- on top of $15.1 million tribes paid him.
McCain also has written to the four tribes who employed Abramoff. According to The Post, leaders of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan, which has canceled its contract with Greenberg Traurig, have agreed to turn over all documents but some tribal officials are objecting.
According to The Post, the Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, whose leaders have questioned the high fees paid to Abramoff, is also willing to hand over documents to McCain.
Abramoff's extra $10 million payment apparently resulted from a relationship with public relations executive Michael Scanlon, whose firm was paid $33 million by four tribes.
