Appeals expected in Seneca-Cayuga Tribe's land case
Wednesday, September 10, 2003

A federal judge is promising a speedy ruling on the status of land owned by the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe but that doesn't mean the battle will be over any time soon.

The tribe is based in Oklahoma but its ancestral home is New York. The tribe purchased 229 acres there and plans to build a Class II bingo facility on the land.

Local officials say the tribe lost all rights to the land when it was removed to Oklahoma. Cayuga County is also appealing the tribe's land claim victory.
