Recognition decision expected for Schaghticoke Tribe

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is expected to issue a final decision on federal recognition for the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut.
The tribe was denied status in a preliminary decision. New information has been submitted to the BIA in hopes of patching up holes in the record.
The tribe has a reservation in Connecticut. State officials say the tribe isn't qualified for federal status.
The preliminary decision was issued by former assistant secretary Neal McCaleb in December 2002.
